Only to have an account in the genesis block, thus being between the first to create new blocks, there is a sale. It comes with also a few more perks. Once the blockchain runs, anyone can add their node to the registry to create new blocks, but there's simply a fee to pay in the blockchain, and a queue as we add only few nodes per weeks. (When I say 'we', I mean the protocol)
